The Mobile Grocer - A BCSGFSA initiative

The BCSGFSA was successful in receiving a grant from VicHealth for 4 initiatives, as a part of the Local Partnertships for Food First program (LPFF). One of which being the Mobile Grocer, an initiative to bridge the gaps in areas within our 2 shires that do not have enough access to fresh produce. We are currently piloting a community-owned, solar-powered mobile grocery van to test distribution routes and community engagement in under-serviced townships throughout Bass Coast and South Gippsland. Fit-out is underway to prepare the van for transporting fresh produce safely and efficiently. We are currently forming partnerships with local growers and community hubs to test delivery routes and pricing models.
A free community engagement session is scheduled for September, Thursday 24th at the Corinella Community House, 11:30am- 1:30pm for a soft launch while we await the van to be up and running and to chat with locals who might be interested in hearing about the initiative, the VicHealth grant, the BCSGFSA and how to access fresh produce locally.
